Abstract
The aim of this thesis was to design a new software solution called BoxControl 2.0 and to implement a working prototype. First, the workflow and the current RFID-based process flow within the Würth Industry Service were briefly introduced. Then the current software, hardware and changes to the prevailing circumstances were presented. In order to work out a best practice approach, related work on RFID middleware were carefully examined after that. The work also includes requirements engineering and design for a cross-platform system that implied a backend in combination with two different interfaces, a common frontend, a monitoring and a remote access concept etc. Ideas and designs derived from the analysis were implemented as a prototype in Java and JavaScript. Different problems, which have occurred during the implementation, and their solutions
were shown. At the end, the requirements were compared with the actual state of the implementation. The prototype was running fine. Although it did not meet all the defined requirements due to steep learning curve and great effort that was spent implementing the substantial functions,
the remaining functions can be achieved with little effort after the project. Consequently, a very good basis for further development of BoxControl 2.0 was created.
